Sensei Chris Marshall

Sensei Chris Marshall has 31 years martial arts experience and is the owner and operator of Phoenix Rising Martial Arts.

Chris started martial arts in 1994, doing White Cloud Kung Fu with Mick Banks in Mount Tom Price WA.

Chris had always wanted to do martial arts due to many extremely bad experiences in her life, but she couldn't afford lessons until she was in her early twenties and working.

After having tried many other sports she knew martial arts was the sport for her. It gave her confidence, control, discipline, self defence skills, improved fitness, she learnt how to be a competitor and perform under pressure and made many friends along the way.

Around the time she was a brown or purple belt she decided that she wanted to become an instructor, she knew how much it had helped with her own life and wanted be able to help others the same way. She wanted to help others to stay safe, gain back lost confidence, build up and find new confidence, take ownership of their lives and what was happening in it.

After becoming an instructor and being one for many years she felt the need to expand and experiment with her own ideas for training with families and children in mind. It was a big step but she was up for the challenge of opening up her own martial arts school, and in 5 weeks with a handful of good family and martial arts friends she was able to open up the doors to her very own school, Phoenix Rising Martial Arts. in 2014.  She has now been running the school successfully for over 10 years with the help of instructors and volunteers. The school has slowly and steadily grown in students and instructors, with new programs being implemented and continuing to have a strong skill base.

All the while Chris has still remained an active martial arts student furthering her own knowledge and skills in all the styles known to her, learning new programs to then implement at her own school and working on programs for use within the community at local schools bringing self defence classes to young women.
