Sensei Chris Marshall – Owner & Head Instructor

With over 31 years of martial arts experience, Sensei Chris Marshall is the passionate owner and head instructor of Phoenix Rising Martial Arts, a school dedicated to empowering individuals and families through the art of martial training.

Chris began her martial arts journey in 1994 in Mount Tom Price, Western Australia, studying White Cloud Kung Fu under Mick Banks. Drawn to martial arts from a young age, she finally began formal training in her early twenties once she was financially independent.

After exploring many other sports, Chris discovered that martial arts was different. It wasn’t just about fitness—it built confidence, discipline, self-defence skills, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Most of all, it gave her a sense of belonging through lifelong friendships.

As she progressed, Chris found her true passion in teaching. Having experienced the life-changing impact of martial arts herself, she felt a strong calling to help others reclaim their confidence, feel safe, and take control of their lives.

In 2014, with the support of her family and martial arts community, Chris opened Phoenix Rising Martial Arts. Her vision was simple: to create a welcoming, family-friendly school where students of all ages could grow in skill, discipline, and community.

More than a decade later, Phoenix Rising has become a thriving martial arts school, expanding programs and instructors while staying true to its core values. Chris continues to learn, explore new styles, and develop community-focused programs—including self-defence workshops for young women in local schools.

Today, she leads with experience, empathy, and excellence—transforming lives one student at a time.
